Guernsey cyclists wearing bright orange jerseys congregated at St Emilion Restaurant on
the St Peter Port waterfront at 8 am on 27 April 2013 to begin Ian Brown's Cycle
Shop 30in30 Cycle Challenge in aid of Les Bourgs Hospice Ian Brown began by
asking for a moment of silence in memory of David Allison, who was killed while
cycling to work on 26 April 2013, and to keep his family in our thoughts.

Ian Brown said there are fifty-four 30in30 Cycle Challenge cyclists this year with
the late addition of Brendan Clouston, Steve O'Connor, and Dave Smart. Ian
honoured Nigel Jones who has participated in Ian Brown's Cycle Shop 30in30
Cycle Challenge every year since its inception." This year Rupert Dorey has
suggested a weight challenge between the men and the ladies so that the biggest
percentage weight loss from each group from the start of the challenge to the
end of the 30 days will win. He asked for any cyclists who wished to
participate to provide him with their weight on Monday morning, 29 April.

In five years Ian Brown's 30in30 Cycle Challenge has raised £282,454 so if this
year's cyclists can raise £50,879, the Cycle challenge will have raised a third
of a million pounds in six years. "Tim Loveridge is going to ride 30,000 feet
uphill on a fixie, which is a bike that cannot peddle backwards, so while going
forwards you always have to pedal, which is a challenge when going downhill,"
Andrea Nightingale is going to cycle 30 miles, run three miles, and swim 30
lengths of a swimming pool each day for thirty days. Sarah Day is going to
allow her year five Hautes Capelles junior school students who raise £30 each
to throw wet sponges at her.
